Martha Nussbaum says that “Whenever I am alone, I sit with books." She says that "If someone behaves badly with me I go home and sit with books”. The deepest parts of me agree. There is a welcomeing ease that can only come from the texture of paper, from the fibrous call of a confidant who lifts your burden with the turn of every page. When I'm tired, lost, anxious, and overwhelmed, I walk through library stacks. I run my fingers across the sureness of crinkled spines on my own bookshelves. I sit in the corner of my favorite used bookstore, and then I start to breathe.
